If you know me well…I LOVE THINGS THAT SPARKLE. Hobby Lobby stole my heart when they created a 100% sparkly nylon scrubby yarn like no other. I’ve tried the standards scrubby yarns you see in the yarn aisle (i.e., Red Heart Scrubby, etc.), but nothing can compete with the gorgeously thick and durable yarn that Hobby Lobby as in stock. If you’re a Hobby Lobby shopper, you probably love the 40% off coupons and 30% off yarn sales they have on a regular basis. Hobby Lobby sells a line of scrubby yarn called “Yarn Bee Scrub-ology Scrub It!” and it comes in a variety of solid colors. I can make about 4 thick scrubbies with this yarn at about 10 minutes each.

I’ve made these for gift baskets, family, friends and even craft shows–people love them! My husband loves them a lot that I have to keep him out of my inventory stash! I sell these at craft shows and they’re quick sells because people love the pop of color and how fun they look. I sound crazy writing out my love for a dish scrubby, but let’s be real…how often can you say that a dish scrubby looks cute and looks amazing in your kitchen?

Because it’s so popular and easy to make, I figured, “Well, why not make a pattern for everyone?!” So here it is:

  • Crochet Hook: K/6.5 mm–I used our very own CroChic® Coffee Lover Hook
  • Yarn: Yarn Bee “Scrub-ology Scrub It!”
  • Skill Level: Beginner to Intermediate–must know how to work in rounds
  • Other: Scissors and Stitch Markers (Optional)

Foundation Row: Begin with the magic ring.

Round 1: Ch 1. HDC 6. Sl St into first St. Ch 1. (6 sts)

Round 2: Starting in the first st, *(2 HDC). Repeat * 5 times. Sl St into first st, Ch 1. (12 sts)

Round 3: Ch 1. Starting in the first st, *(HDC, 2 HDC). Repeat * 5 times. Sl St into first st, Ch 1. (18 sts)

Round 4: Starting in the first st, *(HDC 2, 2 HDCs in next st). Repeat * 5 times. Sl St into first st, Ch 1. (24 sts)

Round 5: Starting in the first st, HDC 24. Sl St into first st, Ch 1. (24 Sts).
**By this point, your scrubby is probably curling up towards you. That is perfectly fine–trust me.

Round 6: Starting in the first st, *(HDC 2, HDC2Tog). Repeat * 5 times. Sl St into first st, Ch 1. (18 sts)

Round 7: Starting in the first st, *(HDC, HDC2Tog). Repeat * 5 times. Sl St into first st, Ch 1. (12 sts).

Round 8: Starting in the first st, *(HDC2Tog). Repeat * 5 times (6 sts). Leave 6 in tail and tie off.

Once you tie off the scrubby, you probably notice that it looks like a weird oval/sphere shape. That’s perfectly fine! After you tie off the loose ends, place the scrubby under something with a bit of weight to it (i.e., a large book, etc.) so that it can flatten. Sometimes I just put it under my thigh as I make another one.

Woohoo! Now you have an adorable scrubby for someone to enjoy while they’re washing dishes. They’re extremely durable and some people even use them as loofahs. My husband and all of my family adore these…and if my husband swears by it–then it must be good!
