Ch(s). Chain(s) HDC(s). Half-Double Crochet(s) St(s). Stitch(es) YO. Yarn Over
Foundation Row: Chain in multiples of 2+1
For the purpose of this tutorial, we will complete 21 Chs.
Row 1: Ch 1, turn. HDC in the 2nd Ch from the hook. HDC 20. (21 sts)
Row 2: Ch 1, turn. In 1st St, *(HDC, Skip a St, Ch 1). Repeat * until the last st. HDC in last st. (21 sts)
Row 3: Ch 1, turn. In the 1st st, HDC. Ch 1. Feather stitch (read below) until the last st. HDC in last st. (21 sts)
Feather Stitch. YO into Ch 1 space (3 loops on hook). YO and insert hook into the skipped stitch 2 rows down. YO and pull yarn up (5 loops on hook). YO and insert hook into the next Ch 1 space (7 loops on hook). YO and pull yarn through all 7 loops on the hook. Ch 1.
Row 4: Same as Row 1, except you will insert hook into the Ch 1 space, 2 rows down, instead of “insert hook into the skipped stitch 2 rows down”.
Note: When doing another Feather Stitch, you will begin in the same Ch 1 space where you just ended the last Feather Stitch.
Hi Patty, Great tutorial! I can’t wait to try the feather stitch! Could you please tell me the size/weight of yarn you used in your tutorial and the size of Northern Lights hook you used please? Lastly, for a baby blanket what size did you make and what yardage was needed? I hope that’s not too many questions 💜💜💜
The yarn used was Yarnspirations Simply Soft in “Off White” for the photo used; however, in the tutorial it was Hobby Lobby’s Yarn Bee Soft Secret. The hook used was a Size J/6.00 mm crochet hook. I’m a tight stitcher for reference.
For the baby blanket, it was a security blanket size of 14 in x 17 in and I took me approximately 1.5 to 2 skeins of yarn.
